Don't worry, I have my own "none free" VPS
I could host your database
your host name will be kame.danacbe.com
unless you prefer to host your db somewhere else, please confirm so that I can add user name / password for you
then I/We should make some research to know how to secure this username/password

this id great, thank you. main advantage of remote database should be that many users can work together on dictionary and translations. i hope that you will join also Smiley . so if you run server, i can use it immediately. important is to allow connection from client, virtual hosts and grant all privileges for admin, esp creating procedures.

and what do you say on prayer of paul? have it enough quality? (anyway, this is probably best what i can do with my experiences)

If you want read/write access you will have to connect to the database through secure channel
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/en/secure-connections.html

the other solution (which I recommend but don't require)
is to provide direct read only access to the data
data modification is possible but indirect way, here is how it work

1. when someone try to modify/add to the database, your application create an sql file that (when executed) will apply the changes to the database
2. this sql file will be upload to an ftp directory
3. then an admin (anyone who you can trust) should review them first and then decide whether to apply or discard those files
