لأن قبحا في شكله حسنا في كلامه .

جبروت يكبر بين الناس هو المال .

I have a bit of a translation problem for you guys...
I thought it would be nice to know what some common Arabic phrases translate to in Coptic, because there were probably some that came from Coptic in the first place.
So here's my question:
How would you translate خللي اللي يقول يقول?
Something like ⲙⲁⲣⲉϥⲥⲁϫⲓ ̀ⲛϫⲉ ⲫⲏⲉⲧⲥⲁϫⲓ

I would be very cautious trusting in those Facebook groups.. I know such people personally and while I can trust Mr George Sedhom 50% of the time (or perhaps a bit more) I do not trust Mr Heshmat Rezkallah one iota.. He makes everything up without any sources or even commonsense.. I am so sorry - no offence intended, but if you don't speak Arabic fluently you may not easily understand what I mean.. Please be very careful..

I agree with ophadece on that matter (100%). Since, the mid 19th century's attempt to revive Coptic language, there have been a lot of uninformed and misinformed articles, and books overstating the influence of Coptic on Egyptian Arabic. At its peak, some claimed that there are 10,000 Coptic words that survived in Egyptian Arabic. I would not mention names in public to avoid defamation.

Also, there have been attempts to translate Egyptian Arabic proverbs to Coptic with subsequent backdating of proverbs as well as providing false etymologies.
The net result is a lot of false etymology, confusion and misinformation. This really does not help any learner and does not reflect well on the status of Coptic teachers.
For Egyptian Arabic words of Coptic etymology I would highly recommend:‘The phonetics and phonology of the Bohairic dialect of Coptic and the survival of Coptic words in the colloquial and Classical Arabic of Egypt and of Coptic grammatical constructions in colloquial Egyptian Arabic’. You're welcome. It is important to clarify that there is a difference between an academic work in peer reviewed journals and PhD thesis etc on one hand, and on the other hand, social media opinions. A case in point is the Old Bohairic pronunciation, which has been attested by hundreds of references and PhD thesis in Oxford, that is being disputed without even reading the evidence.
