I've read about that too and I believe ⲁⲡⲁ was originally ⲡⲁ/Ⲫⲁ which means belong to.
I've nothing to support this speculation though

Anok:
Names like Ⲡⲁⲫⲛⲟⲩϯ, Ⲧⲁϩⲱⲣ,  seem to support that idea.

It could be ⲁ (indefinite article) + ⲡⲁ / ⲧⲁ, to form the more complete "one who belongs to (x)...?" Instead of only "belongs to (x)?"

Except that  ⲁ is indefinite article in English language not Coptic
