Coptic Wikipedia

I've suggested that a Coptic language Wikipedia be created. http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Requests_for_new_languages/Native_speaker_support#Coptic_.2811_support.3B_1_oppose.29

Unfortunately, there's not enough "native" speakers supporting the project. I'm not a Coptic language speaker, I'm just an enthusiast. For the sake of a language with so much history, I ask you all to submit support by adding your names,and stating that you are native speakers of the language.

I bid this project good luck, I do hope the project will go well.

It's important to write Coptic content in Unicode as it is a Wikipedia policy.

After reading why this request was denied, I think that it would be helpful to begin writing Coptic Wikipedia articles on our own so that we can present a core set of articles when the request is next made.

I don't think we should request again before there is a dedicated group of fluent Coptic speakers that can maintain the Wiki,  but until then this is a good project.

First we should work on translating pages for important,  well known things into Coptic.

Have you seen Coptic Wikipedia Incubator is active now for some time? There are some contributors already

No, I think it should not at all be a dictionary, rather a normal lexicon like Arabic/English/German/Portuguese whatever ;-) Wikipedias...

What did you mean with the article of ⲓⲁⲣⲟ `ⲛⲭⲏⲙⲓ being like a dictionary? Many pages still are very short, because I guess, there are not that much people who have much time I myself cannot contribute, because of a lack of time and proficiency in Coptic to produce lexicon-like articles.

Even after doing google search I am still not sure how does Lexicon differ from Dictionary.

ⲓⲁⲣⲟ `ⲛⲭⲏⲙⲓ means river of Egypt and I was asking why is it posted like this rather than single post about (ⲓⲁⲣⲟ=river) and another about (ⲭⲏⲙⲓ=Egypt)

Well I think because ⲓⲁⲣⲟ alone basicly means "river", but it's also used for "Nile". To specify, the user decided to write ⲓⲁⲣⲟ `ⲛⲭⲏⲙⲓ (The River of Egypt), otherwise it would not be clear wether the Nile or any other river is meant.

In a dictionary, words are defined. (i.e. "Egypt": a country in North Africa). In a lexicon, not only words are defined, but there is also much information about the respective topic (i.e. population of Egypt, a map, politics, demographics, ...)
