Pronounciation of some letters نطق بعض الحروف
« on: 08 January , 2025, 02:44:38 PM »
I see the letters Ⲃⲃ Ⲅⲅ Ⲇⲇ Ⲑⲑ Ⲡⲡ Ⲧⲧ Ⲩⲩ Ⲫⲫ Ⲯⲯ and sometimes Ϭϭ ⲛⲉⲙ Ϯϯ being pronounced in different ways from the same factions, like for example I see a supporter of Old Bohairic pronouncing Ⲡⲡ as p (Which is the pronounciation I prefer), but then another Old Bohairic uses b, and I don't get it?? I'd also like to state: I really dislike the Graeco-Bohairic Reforms, it's a Greek plot meant to spoil our Language, speaking of such I sometimes see people critique the Reform but pronounce Ⲅⲅ as a Greek gh instead of the Egyptian g.

I mostly want to know what the Old Pronounciation is and what the New one is, I already knew the Greek ones.

ⲛⲟϥⲣⲓ,

I'm not aware of the so called "New" Old Bohairic pronunciation. As far as I know, there's only one Old Bohairic pronunciation, also known academically as the Late Bohairic pronunciation (and known by its supporters as the Authentic pronunciation). Generally, there are three pronunciations for Bohairic Coptic:
  • Late Bohairic pronunciation
  • Greco Bohairic pronunciation
  • Academic pronunciation

You already know about the first two. The last one tries to pronounce Bohairic Coptic as it was pronounced in the first few centries A.D using academic methods.
