Coptic font on iOS
« Reply #38 on: 13 March , 2012, 07:26:11 AM »
Ⲛⲁⲛⲉ ⲣⲟⲩϩⲓ ⲛⲁⲥⲛⲏⲟⲩ
ⲟⲩⲛⲩⲥⲧⲓⲁ ⲉⲥϣⲏⲡ ϩⲓⲧⲉⲛ ⲛⲓϣⲗⲏⲗ ̀ⲛⲧⲉ ⲛⲏⲉⲑⲟⲩⲁⲃ

My name is George, I think this is my first time posting on this forum, but I have been following it for years.
I am one of the sons of Father Shenouda from Rochester, NY.

I had a question.  Is there anyway we can get coptic font on iOS for iPhone, iPad, iPod?

Thanks,

Ⲛⲁⲛⲉ ⲣⲟⲩϩⲓ ⲡⲉⲛⲥⲟⲛ
Welcome to our forum and send our greetings to Fr. Shenouda :)

About your question,
You first need to download ttf font that support Coptic
most famous one is http://www.gnu.org/software/freefont/

Then you need to find out how to install this ttf font
https://www.google.com.eg/search?q=install+tff+font+ios\&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a#hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=mIY&pwst=1&rls=org.mozilla:en-US%3Aofficial&sclient=psy-ab&q=install+ttf+font+ios&oq=install+ttf+font+ios&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&gs_sm=3&gs_upl=35496l35496l0l35832l1l1l0l0l0l0l0l0ll0l0&gs_l=serp.3...35496l35496l0l35833l1l1l0l0l0l0l0l0ll0l0&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_cp.r_qf.,cf.osb&fp=8906d13d924821a4&biw=1920&bih=884

If u still cant see Coptic unicode characters in your browser, try to make the "GNU Freefont" you installed the default font of your webbrowser

Hope that helps

Hi Maat,
I don't have and i(thing) but I had android and had the same problem
only solution I could come up with is to replace its default font (the one android use by default to display all kind of text) with another font that support Coptic
I am not sure if that is applicable to ipad/iphone or not but maybe u can ask in iphone forum if its possible to change the default font

New Unicode Font
« Reply #42 on: 09 October , 2012, 05:31:36 PM »
Hi,
This article to suggest the creation of new Unicode Font, that can be used as webfont using css3 @font-face
so websites can display coptic without problems and avoid the need to download and install the font
Also, the second goal is to make it usable in 3 languages, Arabic, English and coptic

For Arabic, I suggest using Droid Kufi
For English, I suggest using Numans
For Coptic, Use any popular font

The idea is to make one modern unicode font to be used in the 3 languages one web and desktop

Hello Visitor,
I can't seem to find the font you are talking about? have you made it yet?
also there is a font ArialCoptic which does that, its coptic is not really great but maybe u can work on it instead of starting from scratch
