Weekdays
« on: 24 January , 2013, 06:22:41 AM »
Hello,
I need for the names of the weekdays in Coptic for my calendar.
I just found that Monday is "Ⲁⲃⲓⲧ" (Abit).
What about others 6 days: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Sunday and Saturday,
please?

Like Emad said the days of the week are
ⲡⲓⲟⲩⲁⲓ ⲡⲓⲥⲁⲛⲩ ⲡⲓϣⲟⲙⲟⲧ ⲡⲓϥⲧⲱⲟⲩ ⲡⲓⲧⲓⲟⲩ ⲡⲓⲥⲟⲩ ⲡⲓϣⲁϣϥ
About Ⲁⲃⲓⲧ i am not sure if we know the equivalent words for the other week days

Also as emad mentioned you can use the greek words
ⲕⲩⲣⲓⲁⲕⲏ and ⲥⲁⲃⲃⲁⲧⲟⲛ instead of ⲡⲓⲟⲩⲁⲓ and ⲡⲓϣⲁϣϥ

ϯⲕⲩⲣⲓⲁⲕⲏ
ⲡⲓⲥⲛⲁⲩ
ⲡⲓϣⲟⲙⲧ
ⲡⲓϥⲧⲱⲟⲩ
ⲡⲓⲧⲓⲟⲩ
ϯⲡⲁⲣⲁⲥⲕⲉⲩⲏ
ⲡⲓⲥⲁⲃⲃⲁⲧⲟⲛ
These are the names of the weekdays that are attested in Scala Magna by Ibn Kabar. These names have also been attested in the Bible. ϯⲕⲩⲣⲓⲁⲕⲏ is the standard term for Sunday it means day of the Lord, it is associated with traditions in Upper Egypt eg. not cooking and having a day for the lord
ϯⲡⲁⲣⲁⲥⲕⲉⲩⲏ is the attested term in Scala Magna by Ibn Kabar, it is also attested in the Bible
ⲡⲓⲥⲁⲃⲃⲁⲧⲟⲛ is also a heavily attested term in Scala Magna by Ibn Kabar
The week name is ϯϩⲉⲃⲇⲟⲙⲁⲥ
